Bending old traditions into new paths
Bending old traditions into new paths
Three new albums explore folk music traditions in depth, while bending them in new directions without losing their core essence. Surento explores the lament tradition, rooted in Karelia, Ingria and Finland. Current national borders are of no importance either as Brú dives into Nordic dance tunes played on baroque instruments, while Maria Kalaniemi lets her Finnish-Swedish identity flow naturally into the runo-song tradition.
